Indigo Powder for Natural Dye and Textile Buyers: A Sourcing Guide

Get a bulk quote Email the export desk

Indigo powder for natural dye and textile buyers is the same Indigofera tinctoria leaf powder that hair-care brands order, selected by indigotin content. A.R.T International manufactures and exports it from Rajasthan, India, in 45 to 70% indigotin grades, HPLC verified, with an MOQ of 50 kg and a COA on every lot.

Indigotin is the specification that matters

Indigotin is the blue dye molecule in indigo leaf. We grade by it: Standard runs 45 to 55% and Premium runs 60 to 70%, verified by HPLC and stated on the COA for the specific lot. For a dye house, higher indigotin means more dye per kilogram, which is the number to use when you compare quotes or calculate vat strength. A cheap kilogram with weak indigotin is not a saving.

Buyer noteCompare offers on cost per unit of indigotin, not cost per kilogram. Ask every supplier for the HPLC figure on a per-lot COA; if they cannot produce one, the grade is a guess.

Vat basics, from the raw-material side

Indigotin is not water-soluble, which is why indigo is a vat dye: the dyer reduces it to its soluble leuco form in an alkaline vat, dips the fiber, and lets the shade develop as it oxidises in the air, building depth over repeated dips. Vat practice varies by studio, fiber and recipe, so we stay on our side of the line: we supply the raw leaf powder with the indigotin content stated, and your dye house works from real numbers.

Natural, and documented as such

Synthetic indigo exists and is cheaper, so buyers selling a natural or plant-dyed story need the paperwork to hold. Our powder is milled from dried Indigofera tinctoria leaves, and the COA states indigotin by HPLC, synthetic dyes absent, and PPD absent by GC-MS. Moisture is held at or under 10%, and organic and vegan grades are available where your market requires them.

One leaf powder, two markets

The same powder serves two buyer groups. Hair-care brands pair it with henna powder in the two-step method for brown and black tones; natural-dye studios, craft suppliers and textile producers buy it for the vat. If your interest is hair care, see the indigo for hair-care brands guide; for EU and US compliance detail, the EU and US sourcing guide covers documentation.

MOQ, packaging and where demand sits

MOQ is 50 kg, packed in PP bags with custom-printed options for private-label programs. Production is GMP certified with Halal certification available, and demand spans the US, UK, EU and the Gulf. Send your grade, volume and destination to the export desk and we respond within 24 hours with a price per kg and the COA.

Frequently asked questions

Can this indigo powder be used for natural dyeing and textiles?

Yes. Indigofera tinctoria is the classic source of natural indigo dye, and the same leaf powder is used by natural-dye, craft and textile buyers as well as hair-care brands. Tell our export desk your intended application and we confirm the right grade.

What indigotin content should dye buyers specify?

We supply Standard (45 to 55%) and Premium (60 to 70%) indigotin grades, HPLC verified on the COA for each lot. Higher indigotin means more dye delivered per kilogram, which matters when you calculate vat strength and cost per dyed unit.

Is your indigo natural or synthetic?

Plant-derived. Our indigo is milled from dried Indigofera tinctoria leaves grown in Rajasthan, India. The COA states indigotin by HPLC, synthetic dyes absent, and PPD absent by GC-MS.

What is the MOQ and packaging for bulk indigo powder?

MOQ is 50 kg. Standard packing is PP bags with custom-printed options, and we prepare export documentation for EU, US and GCC destinations with a COA on every lot.
