Vat basics, from the raw material side
Indigo does not dissolve in water, which is why it is a vat dye. The dyer reduces it in an alkaline vat, dips the fibre, and lets the shade come up as it meets the air, building depth over repeated dips. Natural, and documented as such
Synthetic indigo exists and it is cheaper, so any buyer selling a natural or plant dyed story needs paperwork that holds up. Moisture is held at or under 10%, and organic and vegan grades are available where your market asks for them.

Dye strength is measured as indigotin content. Standard grade runs 45% to 55% and premium runs 60% to 70%, tested by HPLC and stated on the Certificate of Analysis for the lot. The same report confirms synthetic dyes absent and PPD absent by GC-MS. Ask for a sample lab report before you order.
