Senna Powder Price: What Moves It

Get a bulk quote Email the export desk

Senna powder price is set by four things: the crop year, the leaf grade, the strength of the material and how thoroughly it has been cleaned. Volume matters less than buyers expect. Two quotes for the same product can differ by half, and usually one of those four is the reason.

We manufacture senna in Rajasthan and quote it every week, so this is what actually sits behind a per kilogram figure.

1. The crop year

Senna is rain fed and grown on marginal land in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. A poor monsoon means a shorter crop and a firmer market, and the effect carries for months because the harvest window is narrow.

This is the single biggest mover, and it is why a price quoted in one season is not a price in the next. Anyone quoting you a fixed annual figure is either holding stock or has not thought it through.

2. Leaf grade

Whole leaf, broken leaf and powder are not the same value. Powder is often milled from material that is already broken, so it can sit below whole leaf, which surprises buyers who assume more processing means more money.

Stem content is the quality line inside the grade. A lot carrying stem is cheaper and weaker, and a buyer paying for leaf and receiving stem has paid a high price for the leaf they did get.

3. Strength

Material is traded against a strength figure. A higher grade costs more per kilogram and can cost less per dose, which is the calculation a supplement manufacturer should actually be running.

The calculation that mattersCompare cost per dose, not cost per kilogram. A stronger lot at a higher price is often cheaper in the finished product, because you use less of it to hit the same label claim.

4. Cleaning

Field material arrives with soil, sand, stones and foreign leaf. Machine cleaning, de-stoning and sieving all cost money and all show in the price. A cheap lot is frequently a lot that skipped a cleaning pass, and that arrives as a microbial result or an ash figure your QA team rejects.

Rejected material is the most expensive senna there is, because you have paid the freight both ways and lost the production slot.

What a quoted range does not include

Basis What it covers
Ex-works The material at our gate. Nothing else.
FOB Adds export packing, inland freight, documentation and port handling
CIF Adds sea freight and insurance to your port

Most low figures quoted online are domestic ex-works numbers for raw material. They carry no processing, no export packing, no documentation and no freight. A real export price is several times that, and treating the two as comparable is how buyers end up feeling misled by an honest supplier.

We do not publish a per kilogram figure for this reason. We quote against your grade, your volume and your port, in dollars, within 24 hours.

What moves the price less than people think

Order size. Beyond a container there is little left to give. The difference between 500 kg and 2,000 kg is smaller than the difference between two crop years.

Packing. Bags or drums changes the figure at the margin. It is not where the money is.

Certification. Organic and fair trade lots do carry a premium, but it is a defined one and it is usually smaller than the swing between grades.

How to compare two quotes properly

Ask all three suppliers for the same basis, the same grade and the same strength, and ask each of them who processed the material. A trading house quoting a low figure on someone else’s lot cannot hold that specification next time, and the second shipment is where that shows up.

More on the leaf and pod difference in senna leaves compared with senna pods, which affects price as well as performance.

Sourcing senna

We grow, process and mill senna leaves and senna pods in Sojat, Rajasthan. Because we manufacture rather than trade, the grade and the cleaning are ours to set, and a repeat order can be held to the same specification. More on the range on our senna manufacturer and exporter page.

Minimum order 100 kg. Certificate of Analysis on every lot, free sample before you order, and a quote in US dollars within 24 hours to your port.

Specifications, for buyers who order to a number

Send the grade, the strength you formulate to, the volume and the destination port. We come back with a price on a stated basis, the packing options and the documents that travel with the shipment. Strength is confirmed on the Certificate of Analysis for your lot rather than promised as a range, because it moves with the crop.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of senna powder per kg?

It depends on crop year, grade, strength and cleaning, so a single figure would be misleading. Send your specification, volume and port and we quote in dollars within 24 hours.

Why do online senna prices look so much lower?

Most are domestic ex-works figures for raw material. They exclude processing, export packing, documentation and freight, so they are not comparable to an export price.

Does buying more reduce the price much?

Less than most buyers expect. Past a container load the crop year and the grade move the figure far more than the volume does.

Is stronger senna better value?

Often yes, if you compare cost per dose rather than cost per kilogram. A stronger lot lets you use less to hit the same label claim.

Do you quote FOB or CIF?

Both, in US dollars. Tell us the destination port and we will state the basis clearly so you can compare it against other offers fairly.

Specs change with the crop, the season and the grade. Ask our export desk for a current lab report, the minimum order and a price to your port, and we will come back within 24 hours.
