Raw resin, powder and extract at 65% or 70%
Frankincense is sold from raw oleo-gum resin all the way to a standardised extract, and the buyers do not overlap. Raw resin and resin powder go to incense, cosmetic and traditional-formulation buyers. Extract standardised to 65% or 70% boswellic acids by HPLC goes to supplement and pharmaceutical formulators buying the assay. There is also an AKBA-enriched grade to 30% for buyers whose specification names that fraction specifically.
Why the enriched grade exists
Boswellic acids are the marker group. AKBA is the single fraction most often named in a modern joint health spec. Our standard 65% and 70% extracts carry AKBA at natural levels. The enriched grade concentrates it to 30%. If your spec names AKBA rather than total boswellic acids, tell us at enquiry, because the two are priced very differently.
Boswellia serrata, the Indian species
Frankincense is several species and they are not interchangeable. We supply Boswellia serrata, the Indian species, which is the one behind almost all standardised boswellic acid material. Boswellia sacra and carterii from Arabia and the Horn of Africa are the aromatic incense species and carry a different profile and a different price. We quote against the binomial. MOQ is 25 kg with a 3 year shelf life in sealed drums or foil bags.
