Who sources this ingredient
Heartwood extract of Acacia catechu
Katha, or black catechu, is not a milled botanical but a boiled-down heartwood extract, which is why it behaves as a concentrated tannin and catechin source rather than as a plant powder. Dark catechu (katha) is the traditional grade used in paan and in oral care; pale catechu is lighter in colour and tannin profile. Fine powder and a further-refined extract are available.
Oral care, tanning and traditional use
The catechin and tannin load is what oral-care formulators and leather tanners both buy, for entirely different reasons. Traditional paan supply remains a substantial market in South Asia. Buyers should say which of the three they are, because the colour and tannin specification that suits a tannery is not the one an oral-care formulation wants. MOQ 100 kg with a COA on every lot.
