Who sources this ingredient
30-35%, and what a plant surfactant does
The shell carries 30 to 35% saponins, which is high enough that the fruit lathers in warm water with nothing added. That is the entire commercial case: it is a surfactant that comes out of a tree rather than a petrochemical plant, which is what natural-detergent and clean-beauty brands are buying. It lathers less than sodium laureth sulfate and always will, so formulations built around it work with that rather than against it.
Whole shells, powder and extract
Whole shells go to consumer laundry products sold as-is and to buyers who extract themselves. Shell powder goes into wash powders and hair blends. Liquid and concentrated saponin extracts go to formulators who need a measured surfactant load rather than a botanical.
