Who sources this ingredient
25% and 75% gymnemic acids
Gymnemic acids are the marker and the two standard grades are 25% and 75% by HPLC. 25% is the common supplement grade. 75% is the concentrated one, chosen where the dose has to fit a small capsule. A water-soluble grade is available for beverage and stick-pack formats. Dry leaf and leaf powder are available for traditional formulation at a fraction of extract pricing.
The name means sugar destroyer
Gymnema is known in India as gurmar, which translates roughly as sugar destroyer, and the plant is best known for the way chewing the leaf temporarily blunts the perception of sweetness. That is a sensory effect rather than a claim, and it is why the leaf is a fixture of the blood-sugar-support supplement category. Buyers in that category usually specify the 75% grade; tea and traditional buyers take the leaf.
