Who sources this ingredient
85%, 95% and 99%, and what the difference buys
Purity here means the proportion of husk to residual seed and fines, and it is the single line on the specification that moves the price. 85% is the food and general supplement grade and is what most fibre supplements and bakery applications use. 95% is the common pharmaceutical grade. 99% is the highest purity we run and goes to buyers whose own registration requires it. Ordering 99% for a food application is a real and common way to overpay, so tell us the end use and we will quote the grade that actually fits.
Swelling factor is the number your buyer checks
Psyllium is bought for what it does in water, and swelling factor is how that is measured. We hold at or above 40, which is the BP standard, and state it on the COA for every lot along with moisture at or below 12%. Buyers who are formulating to a pharmacopeia should send us the monograph they are working to before the first order; buyers making a food product usually care more about mesh and colour, which we will match to a retained sample.
India grows most of the world's isabgol
Psyllium is one of the few botanicals where India is not one source among many but the dominant one, and Rajasthan is the centre of it. That is a real advantage for a buyer: the crop is close to our processing, the trade is mature, and the grades are standardised enough that a specification written in one year still means the same thing in the next. Our facility is GMP and FDA registered with Halal and Kosher certification, and a 3 year shelf life makes psyllium one of the easier items to hold in stock.
