Who sources this ingredient
Feed grade and superfood grade
Alfalfa leaf powder sells into two markets that want different things from the same plant. Feed grade goes to feed manufacturers on protein, at around 25%, and on bulk economics. Superfood grade goes to supplement and green-blend brands on chlorophyll and beta-carotene, and is dried and milled far more carefully because colour is what that buyer is judging. Ordering feed grade for a green-powder blend is a common and visible mistake.
Spray dried and freeze dried
How the leaf is dried decides how much colour and how much of the vitamin profile survives. Spray dried is the standard for supplement use and gives a soluble, consistent powder. Freeze dried preserves the most and costs the most, and is specified where a green-blend brand is selling on colour intensity. Conventional and organic are available across both. Protein sits at around 25% and vitamin A is present as beta-carotene.
Feed mills, green blends and food processors
Feed manufacturers take the bulk volume. Supplement brands take spray or freeze dried for green powders and tablets. Food processors take it as a natural colour and nutrient addition. Buyers building a feed programme usually take it alongside mustard seed cake and guar korma from the same desk; buyers building a green blend usually take it with moringa and wheatgrass. Both routes carry GMP with Halal and Organic available.
