Who sources this ingredient
Two very different stevia purchases
Dried stevia leaf and Reb-A extract are sold under one name and are not interchangeable. Leaf is a botanical, bought by tea blenders and by traditional-medicine formulators, and it carries the herbal aftertaste that some blends actually want. Reb-A extract is a high-intensity sweetener bought on an assay figure by food and beverage manufacturers. If your specification names a Reb-A percentage you want the extract; if it names dried leaf, you want this page.
200-400x sugar, and what that means in a formulation
Stevia's sweetening power runs 200 to 400 times sugar depending on grade and on the glycoside profile, which is why it is dosed in grams where sugar is dosed in kilos. That ratio is the reason a 50 kg order goes a very long way and why the MOQ on this line is 50 kg rather than 100. Buyers reformulating from sugar should expect to solve for bulk and mouthfeel separately, because removing sugar removes body as well as sweetness.
GRAS, JECFA and EU, and why buyers ask first
Stevia is one of the few botanicals where regulatory status is the first question rather than the last. Steviol glycosides hold GRAS status in the United States, are JECFA evaluated and are approved in the EU. We supply against GMP, GRAS, JECFA and Halal certification and the documentation goes out with the quote. Buyers entering a new market should send the market first, because approval scope and permitted use levels differ by jurisdiction.
