Who sources this ingredient
Golden, brown and ground flax
Golden and brown flax are nutritionally close, and the choice is usually cosmetic: golden disappears into pale bakery and beverage products, brown is cheaper and fine wherever the seed is visible anyway. Ground flax is milled against the order rather than stocked, for the same reason ground chia is: breaking the seed coat exposes the oil, and an oil at 22-23g ALA per 100g is precisely what you do not want sitting in a warehouse. If you need ground and cannot mill in house, tell us the delivery schedule and we will mill to it.
ALA at ~22-23g per 100g, plus lignans
Flax is one of the richest plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid, and the figure we hold to is ~22-23g per 100g, stated per lot. It is also the highest common dietary source of lignans, which is what interests supplement formulators rather than food buyers. Buyers making a label claim should send the claim before ordering, because the tolerance you need decides both the grade and how tightly we have to clean.
Bakery, supplement and pharmaceutical buyers
Three quite different categories buy flax and they want different things. Bakery and cereal buyers want whole seed, consistent size and a clean count. Supplement makers want the ALA and lignan figures and will specify to them. Pharmaceutical buyers want documentation above all, and get the same COA and export paperwork as every other lot.
